When to start
:
Tuition starts in year 4
Running costs
Strings occasionally break and cost from approximately £10 per set
Hire costs:
Acoustic Guitars are not available for hire from HMS. They can be hired from music retailers from about £13 per month
Purchase Price:
New student guitars can be purchased from approximately £40
General:
There are many performance opportunities in gutiar ensembles, jazz and folk groups.
Electric Guitar
When to start:
Tuition tends to start in year 8, some students purchase and electric guitar after playing the acoustic guitar for a few years
Running costs
Strings occasionally break and cost about £10 each to replace.
Hire costs:
Electric Guitars are not available for hire from HMS. They can be hired from music retailers from about £13 per month
Purchase Price:
Electric guitars can be purchased from HMS for about £85.
General:
There are lots of performance opportunites, mainly in rock, pop and jazz bands.
Bass Guitar
When to start
:
Usually from year 8, but some school offer tuition in middle schools
Running costs
Strings occasionally break and cost about £10 each to replace.
Hire costs:
A bass guitar and amplifier can be hired from HMS for £5 a month
Purchase Price:
Student model bass guitars can be bought from around £110 from HMS
General:
There are many performance opportunites, from school wind bands, to rock, pop and jazz bands.
